Tough call, as I mostly base it on the context in which they're consumed.
I guess I'd take the overs so that I could enjoy most barleywines, old ales, and a whole host of Americanized styles that are 6% or over. If I really wanted to, I'd then start homebrewing milds, ESBs and the like to 6%. But wait... that might leave out delicious Czech and German lagers. Doppelbocks and eisbocks then, I guess. Damn that snap judgment.
It's kinda split it seems. I wonder if there'd be different results with a three-way choice like: up to 5%, 5%-7% and 7&+? I'd struggle more with that one!
I would take the over six, easy. I like to get there quickly and stay there. Haha.
I usually nurse whatever I have in front of me. I think that's part of my frustration at drinking ale in pubs-- everything's around 4% usually, I sit there, thinking, this is getting me nowhere! Haha.
session, no question. Session euqals vibe equals enjoyment, equals time spent in bar/pub, having a great time. Session, every time. maybe im impulsive, im a Leo, what can I say...?
I reckon about 80% of all the beer I drink is sub 6%, proper session stuff. So although there are a few beers I would miss (Meantime IPA being close to the top of that list)I could probably get by on the sub 6%ers quite happily.
Give me the over 6%-ers (although I'd try and get Thornbridge to up their % on Jaipur by 0.1%). I want it hard and fast.
ReplyDeleteI would take the unders. Love sitting in the pub downing pints and chatting - can't really do that with the big boys.
ReplyDeleteI'll have the 6 and overs please... (I'm sure there's a length against girth argument somewhere here!)
ReplyDeleteIf I really had to, then under.
ReplyDeleteAnd by that I meant I'd take the unders, and never have the overs, if I had to.
ReplyDeleteShould have read the question properly :D
Under. Sub-six-percenters make up 90% of the beers I usually drink.
ReplyDeletePlays well with bigger beers.
ReplyDeleteI do miss "uk style drinking beer" when away, and miss chunky american ales when I am here...
falling off fence - I wouldn't miss lighter styles.

Just make everything 6% right on the nose then.

ReplyDeletebelow 6% for sure - I try to avoid anything above 5 with cask ale. And bottles I can take or leave - real ale I could never give up!
ReplyDeleteI think the skill for the brewer is to get maximum taste without maximum strength.
Something like Deuchers IPA!

ReplyDeleteSession seems to be overtaking the big guns, interesting...
ReplyDeleteNow I'm thinking about it more there are an awful amount of sub-6%ers that I'd miss!
